Overview:

Raise, position, and connect iron or steel girders, columns, and other structural parts to create finished structures or structural frameworks. It is possible to erect metal storage tanks and put together prefabricated metal buildings.

Job Responsibilities:

Dismantle any structures or equipment that isn't in use.
Fabricate metal pieces such as steel frames, columns, beams, and girders in accordance with drawings or supervisory instructions.
Install metal or precast concrete components for constructions such buildings, bridges, dams, towers, storage tanks, fences, and highway guard rails.
Drill drift pins into rivet holes in structural steel members to align rivet holes with matching holes in previously installed members.
To transfer heavy equipment or materials, assemble hoisting equipment or rigging, such as cables, pulleys, or hooks.
Using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels, check the vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members.
