Overview:

Install and repair heating, air conditioning, HVAC, and refrigeration systems, such as oil burners, hot-air furnaces, and heating stoves.

Post-secondary instruction leading to a certificate or an associates degree is required. These programs generally last from 6 months to 2 years.

Obtain and keep all necessary certifications.
Follow blueprints to assemble, position, and mount heating and cooling equipment.
Using portable metal-working tools or welding equipment, fabricate, assemble, or install ductwork or chassis pieces.
Pipe fitter's tools are used to measure, cut, thread, or bend pipe or tubing.
Wrap insulation around pipes and secure it with cement or wire bands.
In collaboration with the repair and maintenance teams, assist with additional tasks.
To install equipment, use power saws or drills to cut or drill holes in the floors, walls, or roof.
Create work orders to remedy any deficiencies that need to be addressed.
All flaws should be documented and reported.

Work 40 hours a week
Work is irregular, depending on weather conditions, customer demand or contract duration.
Work both indoors and outdoors
