Overview:

Operate self-propelled mining equipment that continuously extract coal, metal and nonmetal ores, rock, stone, or sand from mine faces and load them into conveyors, shuttle cars, or trucks.

Job Responsibilities:

To start and regulate conveyor movement, as well as to start and place drill cutters or torches, move the controls.
Check for methane gas to ensure that the air you are inhaling is of good quality.
Determine where the holes or channels will be cut, as well as their limits and depths.
Observe and listen to the operation of equipment to look for tool binding or stoppage, as well as other equipment faults.
Before mining the face regions, make sure the roof and rib support systems are stable.
To produce more holes or cuts, reposition the equipment.
Wrenches are used to repair, lubricate, and adjust machinery, as well as change cutting teeth.
Drive machines into place at workstations.
