Overview:

Veterinarian is a healthcare professional who is responsible for diagnosing, treating and curing diverse types of diseases in birds and animals. Veterinarians are trained to diagnose all kinds of animals, but sometimes they choose to treat only one kind of animal. It involves not only taking care of animal health but also includes scientific breeding and handling of livestock. Besides giving treatment, they also perform surgery, prevent spreading of diseases in animals by administering timely vaccination and medicines and give advice on care of pets and farm animals.

Job Responsibilities:

Diagnose and treat animals suffering from sickness and critical conditions.
Treat and dress wounds
Perform surgery on animals
Collect body tissue, faeces, blood, urine, or other body fluids for examination and analysis
Counsel clients about the deaths of their pets or about euthanasia decisions for their pets
Provide animals with suitable medications and perform surgeries when necessary.
Provide time to time vaccinations
Perform various laboratory tests with specialised equipment to ensure right treatment.
Spread awareness to promote animal healthcare.

Work Life:

Veterinarians start their day by doing rounds, examining patients who are admitted to the clinic.
The rest of the day is usually spend examining outpatient cases or conducting surgeries
Most veterinarians work in private clinics and hospitals, others travel to farms, work in laboratories or classrooms, or work for the government.
They do lot of research for understanding the animal health and physiological conditions.
