Overview:
A special educator supports a child to learn by customizing lessons based on their specific challenges. They may work with children who experience a wide range of challenges such as physical, intellectual or emotional impairment. The key responsibility of the special educator is to adapt the general curriculum to the specific child’s needs. They start by developing an individualized plan for each student and use different teaching aids and techniques to fulfil the plan. These professionals collaborate with other professionals for the physical, psychological, and academic needs of the child. They also regularly meet and discuss the child’s progress with the parents.
Career Path:
Stream of Study at 12th: |
Students who wish to become special educators can opt for any stream at the 12th level. After 10th, students can pursue a Certificate in Care Giving Program for 10 months to 1 year. Students will be required to clear institutional entrance tests to enrol in certain special education courses.
