Overview:

Historian is a person who studies about the past. Historians research, analyse and interpret the past using data from various sources, including newspapers, archives, books, film, photos and letters. Some historians perform research and interpretation in colleges or universities as history professors, while others work in museums, government agencies, or other settings. . Historians are concerned with the continuous methodical narrative and research of past events as related to human cycle and study of history in times.

Job Responsibilities:

Gather historical data from sources such as archives, court records, books, diaries, news files, and photographs
Research on and prepare manuscripts in support of public programs and the development of exhibits at historic sites, museums, libraries, and archives
Recommend actions related to historical art, such as which items to add to a collection or which items to display in an exhibition
Advise individuals and institutions regarding the custom of a specific historical period.
Interview people to gather information about historical events and to record oral histories
Impart and conduct research in colleges, universities, museums, and other research agencies.
Analyse and interpret historical information or artefacts to determine its authenticity and significance.
Chart out historical developments in a particular field
Present findings in articles and books.

Work Life:

They spend most of their time in writing reports, conducting research or advising and recommending action related to historical events or findings.
They may also work with archivists and museum workers to preserve artefacts or explain to them the historical significance of items on display.
Most of their day is spend examining information and data in historical sources and drawing logical conclusions from them
Many of them also join the academia and work as teachers in high school.
