Bio Medical engineers work with technology that helps to make human health better or engineer new medicines. Wheel chairs, prosthetics, pain relievers, imaging machines and drug therapies are some of the things that bio engineers work on. Biomedical engineering deals mainly with facts, theories and models describing biological and clinical phenomena. Specialty areas within the field of biomedical engineering are: Biomechanics, Biomaterials, Bioinstrumentation, Bioinformatics, Systems Physiology, Rehabilitation Engineering, Tissue Engineering and Clinical Engineering.

Job Responsibilities:

Advise hospital administrators on the planning, acquisition and use of medical equipment.
Conduct training to educate clinicians and other personnel on the proper use of equipment.
Conduct research, along with life scientists, chemists, and medical scientists, on the engineering aspects of the biological systems of the humans and animals.
Design and develop medical diagnostic and clinical instrumentation, equipment, and procedures, using the principles of engineering and bio-behavioural sciences.
Develop models or computer simulations of human bio-behavioural systems to obtain data for measuring or controlling life processes.
Design systems and products, such as artificial internal organs, artificial devices that replace body parts, and machines for diagnosing medical problems
Install, adjust, maintain, repair, or provide technical support for biomedical equipment
Evaluate the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of biomedical equipment

Work Life:

Some biomedical engineers may work in hospitals where therapy occurs and others may work in laboratories doing research or in manufacturing settings where they design biomedical engineering products.
Some biomedical engineers also work in commercial offices where they make or support business or marketing decisions
Engineers spend their time working with health team, patients or other professionals in medical and engineering field.
Biomedical engineers work in teams with scientists, healthcare workers, or other engineers
Biomedical engineers usually work full time on a normal schedule. However, as with employees in almost any engineering occupation, biomedical engineers may occasionally have to work additional hours to meet the needs of patients, managers, colleagues and clients.
