Overview:
Agricultural biotechnologists use the tools and techniques of biotechnology in improving the field of agriculture. They may be involved in improving the quality or productivity of the existing crops or creating new varieties. These professionals aim to ensure optimum crop yield, increase nutrition and taste of the products, make crops more disease resistant, lower cost of production, and much more. They may work with plant- or animal-related products generally in a laboratory or field environment. These professionals may either work in research or aim to implement the research findings most effectively in real-life situations.
Career Path:
Stream of Study at 12th: |
Students who wish to become agricultural biotechnologists can opt for the Science stream at the 12th level. After 10th, students can also pursue Certificate and Diploma courses in Agriculture, Agriculture Science, Agriculture and Allied Practices, etc. Most of the courses and institutions require students to clear an entrance exam like the Indian Council of Agricultural Research - All India Entrance Examination (ICAR AIEEA). |
